Congratulations to UConn’s Kevin Ollie for his well-earned championship victory in our first ever Tie Society Suit Sixteen bracket.
Unlike in some of his Huskies’ tourney wins, Coach O didn’t need any comebacks or last-minute heroics, trouncing Louisville’s Rick Pitino by a margin wider than the Cardinal coach’s lapels.

Coach Ollie’s swagger has been strong during the season and throughout the tournament. Here at Tie Society, we love to see court side leaders like Ollie step up their style game, both on and off the court. Here are just a few reasons we think Coach Ollie’s game is strong.

Round 2 was everything we expected and more. Kevin Ollie squeaked past Tony Bennet in a matchup that was much closer than we expected (no offense to Mr. Bennet, but Ollie is always on point).
Pitino blew past Martin, setting up a potential matchup in the finals between favorites Pitino and Ollie.
Ollie and Ryan are the only two coaches in the Suit Sixteen that are also still live in the NCAA tourney. Let’s see if style points translate to points on the court.
There were some eyesores in the first round of the Suit Sixteen, but you picked eight coaches with top-notch court-side style. As in any tournament, there were a few blowouts. 75% of you chose UVA’s Tony Bennet over Michigan State’s Tom Izzo. And Cuonzo Martin put a hurtin’ on John Beilein with 73% of the vote. And some matches came down to the wire. Fan favorite Kevin Ollie of UCONN squeaked by Fred Hoiberg of Iowa State 51% to 49%.
In Round 2, expect a tight competition between UCLA’s Steve Alford and Stanford’s Johnny Dawkins. The Pitino v. Martin matchup promises to come down to the wire as well.
Pick the coaches that look good while playing well
While most of America talks about great plays and big upsets, the Tie Society man notices the details of the best-dressed men on the court. Coaches don’t wear jerseys, but they sport a uniform all their own.
But who does it the best?
